BRAINBOX – Strength to Strength

News

Target Training recently attended the offices of Irwin Mitchell solicitors in Newcastle, where a number of volunteers from BRAINBOX were presented with Certificates of Achievement after successfully completing the volunteer training programme.

BRAINBOX officially came into being as a children’s charity, established in the North East of England by a group of dedicated people who have personal and professional experience of living or working with a child or young person with an Acquired Brain Injury (ABI). It provides a 24 hour, 7 days a week freephone telephone support line and has its own website, www.brainboxsupport.org.uk which offers help and support to the families of young people with an ABI. Such is the importance of this charitable organisation, it has attracted some well known and high level Patrons which include The Duchess of Northumberland and Malcolm Macdonald, the ex Newcastle United footballer.

Although still in its infancy, BRAINBOX is moving onwards and upwards and on 4th November this year the 3rd batch of volunteers successfully completed the volunteer training programme. The training programme is designed to ensure that the volunteers have an in depth knowledge and understanding of how BRAINBOX as a Charitable organisation was set-up and why, what service it provides to its customers and how they as telephone volunteers are expected to deliver the service. To help them communicate to families and individuals with an ABI they are also given briefings on the Physiology of the Brain covering how the brain works and what areas of the brain control speech, memory and motor functions.

Certificates were presented to volunteers by Malcolm Macdonald. During the presentation Malcolm spoke with the volunteers and re-stressed the importance of the work they will be doing and thanked them for their dedication.

Ralph Moody & Bryan Shendon from Target met Malcolm during the presentation and speaking to volunteers reinforced why we got involved in the first instance.  Over the last 2 years we at Target Training have been proud to support Julie, her fellow Management Committee members and the all important telephone Volunteers by delivering Management, Team Building and Customer Service training and we are looking forward to providing further training and development to the current staff of BRAINBOX as well as its new volunteers.
