Target Training celebrated last week, when the 1,000th person to be trained to help develop their workplace skills sat a 1-day Essential Management Skills course in Newcastle on the 17th November.

Target Training was established in 2003 by two former RAF work colleagues – Ralph Moody and Tony Longland – who together, have spent many years involved in the management, design and delivery of training. The company has expanded its offering over the years, and now delivers in excess of 20 different courses covering all aspects of on-the-job training from time management to understanding the new Quality Assurance Qualifications.

Ralph Moody said, “Training 1,000 people is a real milestone for us. But we don’t see this as just numbers on a page, these are 1,000 people that are better equipped to go about their work on a daily basis. It’s great to be in a business that makes a difference to people.

“We’ve never really been keen on ‘off the shelf’ training courses. We know it’s about giving people confidence, motivation and the belief in what they can achieve whilst at the same time improving their performance.”

Target Training is a local company, based in Northumberland, but delivers training across the region and beyond, running regular courses in Newcastle, Sunderland, Edinburgh, Manchester and London.

Tony Longland said, “It’s been an interesting few years for us, seeing and helping all these people from a whole range of businesses and organisations. What stands out above everything else is that training, even in the midst of a recession, is a vital investment for any business.

“We pride ourselves on the feedback we receive, not just about the courses, but about how people have applied the learning back in the workplace. It’s a great feeling to know that next week, our 1,000th person to be trained will be sitting in that room.”

The 1000th trainee was Hazel Douse from Henderson Insurance Brokers Ltd. And she was presented with a bottle of champagne to celebrate her surprise achievement.

She said, “I was delighted to be the 1000th individual that Target Training have trained, management development is really important and it is comforting to see that so many managers have seen this too”

Target Training have recently had two new ‘Train the Trainer’ courses accredited by the Institute of Leadership and Management (ILM) and will begin running these across the country in the New Year.

“We’re looking forward to the next year with real optimism”, said Ralph. “There’s a lot of doom and gloom out there at the moment, but we’re looking to recruit a few more trainers, expand our offering further, and we’re confident that we’ll train our next 1,000 people in far less than 7 years time! The North East is full of fantastic people, and it’s a great place to do business.”
