Most people are promoted because they are good at their job.
Very few are promoted because they are good at managing people, and almost nobody is taught the difference.
02
That gap is where teams lose direction, good people get frustrated,
and managers end up doing the work themselves rather than leading it.
03
Our Management Development Programme closes it. Three levels,
ILM accredited, delivered at your workplace and built around your organisation, not off the shelf.
The Three Levels
The levels build on each other. Core themes are revisited at every stage. MBTI profiling, feedback, delegation and difficult conversations are introduced
on Core and developed again on Leader and Executive, each time at the level of
complexity that role demands. Nobody covers the same ground twice.
Level 01
Core — Building Strong Foundations
3 Days
Supervisors and first-line managers
For people new to leading others, or who have been doing it
a while without ever being shown how. Core builds the confidence
and the practical habits that make the first two years of managing
far less lonely.
Covered on Core:
Understanding your own personality and communication style using MBTI
The real role of a line manager, and how it differs from being good at the job
Building trust and accountability in a team
Managing poor performance and handling difficult conversations early
Motivating different people, including managing Generation Z
Delegating properly, and why managers avoid it
Giving feedback that people can actually use
By The End, Participants Can:
Communicate with clarity and confidence
Have the conversations they have been avoiding
Delegate and trust their team
Lead consistently rather than reactively
Level 02
Leader — Developing Capable Leaders
4 Days
Experienced managers and middle management
For managers who are already competent and now need to lead through complexity: competing priorities, harder decisions,
and teams that need developing rather than directing.
Covered on Leader:
Situational leadership, flexing your style to the person and the situation
Emotional intelligence and reading team dynamics
Performance management and holding people accountable
Decision-making frameworks and thinking under pressure
Managing your time, planning, prioritising and the "time bandits"
Moving from doing to leading, and reducing micromanagement
Coaching skills, developing people rather than directing them
By The End, Participants Can:
Make clearer decisions, faster
Build accountable, motivated teams
Handle complex people problems without escalating them
Lead with consistency and influence
Level 03
Executive — Leading with Strategic Vision
7 Days
Senior leaders and the Senior Leadership Team
For those responsible for direction, culture and organisational
performance. At this level leadership is less about managing teams
and more about creating alignment and delivering results through
other people.
Covered on Executive:
Strategic leadership and critical thinking under pressure
Executive presence, and leading culture rather than tasks
High-stakes conversations — challenging peers and stakeholders
Advanced coaching and mediation skills
Aligning leadership approach across the senior team
Succession planning and workforce development
Building a high-performance culture built on trust and accountability
By The End, Participants Can:
Lead with strategic clarity and emotional intelligence
Create alignment across the leadership team
Move the organisation from control to direction
Drive performance through others
Not sure which level your managers need? Let’s talk it through.
Delivered at your workplace, face to face. Cohorts are typically 8 to 15, small enough that everyone contributes and gets individual attention, large enough for a real range of experience in the room. We can work with larger groups where an organisation needs it, and have
delivered to as many as 30. Modules are spaced, usually monthly, so people
apply what they have learned between sessions rather than forgetting it by
Friday.
Every programme is built around your organisation. We take the time to understand your people, your culture and the specific challenges you are facing before we design anything. Nothing is off the shelf. If you would rather send one or two people on an open course than run a programme in house, our leadership and management courses cover many of the same topics.
Each Level Includes:
ILM accreditation, a nationally recognised qualification
MBTI psychometric profiling for every participant
Group coaching, between three and six sessions to embed the learning
Twelve months’ access to Alchemy of Leadership, our online development gateway — video modules, practical tools and live group coaching calls
Action planning built into every module, so learning transfers to the workplace
One-to-one executive coaching is available alongside any level.
WHO DELIVERS IT
Ralph Moody
Claire Moody
Ralph and Claire Moody lead the programme, and both have spent their careers
doing the job they now teach.
Both served over two decades in the Royal Air Force, leading and managing
officers and senior non-commissioned officers. Both have managed at first-line, middle and
senior level themselves, and both hold A1 categorisation, the RAF’s highest
instructor grade.
Claire holds an MSc in Executive Coaching from Ashridge and is an
internationally recognised coaching supervisor, working with senior leaders
and with other coaches.
Between them they have developed hundreds of managers across transport and
shipping, manufacturing, oil and gas, horticulture and agriculture, and the
public sector. Neither is a career trainer who has never done the job.
Our courses are rated 5.0 on Trustpilot and Google, which is rare in leadership development.

Management Development Programme FAQs
Is The Management Development Programme Accredited?
Yes. We are an ILM Approved Centre and every level of the
programme carries ILM accreditation — a nationally recognised
qualification valued by HR teams across every sector.
Which Level Do Our Managers Need?
Core suits supervisors and first-line managers. Leader suits
experienced managers and middle management. Executive is for
senior leaders and the Senior Leadership Team. Many organisations
run more than one level at the same time so that everyone is
working from the same language and the same tools.
How Long Does It Take?
Core is 3 days, Leader is 4 days and Executive is 7 days.
Modules are usually spread over several months rather than
delivered in one block, so people can apply what they learn
between sessions.
How Many People Can Attend?
Cohorts are typically 8 to 15, and 12 tends to work best, with enough variety of experience for good discussion, small enough that everyone gets individual attention. We can deliver to larger groups where it suits your organisation, and have run programmes for up to 30. Tell us what you need and we will design around it.
Can The Programme Be Tailored To Our Organisation?
It always is. We take the time to understand your people,
your culture and the challenges your managers are facing
before we design anything. Nothing we deliver is off the shelf.
What Happens After The Programme?
Every participant gets twelve months' access to Alchemy of Leadership,
our online development gateway, with video modules, practical tools and live group coaching calls. One-to-one executive coaching is also available alongside any level.
Let's Talk About Your Managers
Every programme starts with a conversation about what your organisation
actually needs. Tell us where your managers are now and where you need
them to be, and we will design something that gets them there.
