The PTT Train the Trainer courses are held in a fantastic venue in the City of Edinburgh. Our venue is merely a walk away from Waverley Station.

Course Information

Have you ever attended a training session where the trainer merely read the presentation slides and didn't engage? How much did you learn and retain from that session? Not much? That’s OK. This isn’t your fault, as merely reading the PowerPoint slides isn’t effective training.

We’re here to turn things around and help you develop effective and impactful training skills.

Our PTT Train the Trainer course teaches real professional training skills. Through the guidance of our master training professionals, delegates complete this course with the knoweldge and skills to be a brilliant trainer.

What you will receive/what is included

You will receive trainer support and ample guidance through the two-day PPT Train the Trainer course. Study guides and necessary handouts will be given. Lunch and refreshments are also included during the two-day course.

How you will be assessed

You will be taught and assessed against the tried-and-tested five pillars of instruction:

1. Structure: Master the most effective way to plan and implement a training structure that is smooth, flawless and understood by the participants.

2. Question Technique: Learn how to ask the right questions to engage your audience and get them thinking.

3. Personal Qualities: Learn how to understand learners’ behaviours, build rapport and use body language effectively.

4. Aids: Experience the best trainer aids in use today and learn how to use them effectively. This includes reasons why we shouldn't misuse PowerPoint.

5. Content: Master how to ensure relevant training content that meets the structure.

Day One Highlights

Fundamentals. You can’t run before you can walk. So we’ll begin our first day with all the fundamentals, focusing on training principles and techniques that will form the foundation of your career as a trainer.

Behavioural Personality Type. You will use the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) to learn your behavioural personality type and how to use it to your advantage as a trainer.

‘Throw the Monkey’ Techniques. You will learn one of the best engagement techniques. It will guarantee participation whenever or wherever you hold your training sessions.

Questioning. With this session, we will go deeper into understanding the different types of questioning techniques and determining when they’re useful in training.

Structure. We teach you the key elements on how to structure a training session that motivates and checks understanding.

Consolidation. You will have tons of chances to apply what you’ve learned throughout the day.

Day Two Highlights

Coping or Overcoming Nerves: It’s not unusual to get nervous when training groups of people. But we’ll help you create positive habits to overcome your nerves.

Use of Visual Aids: PowerPoint can make or break your presentation. In this session, we’ll tackle the poor use of PowerPoint and offer some tips to ensure you use it properly and effectively. We’ll also cover how to use whiteboard and flipchart advantageously.

Managing Participant Behaviour: Poor participant behaviours can disrupt a training session. So on day 2, we’ll teach you how to manage typical negative behaviours you might encounter in your future training sessions.

Evaluating Training: You will learn how to evaluate your own training to ensure it works.

Assessment Session. Before the course ends, you’ll be asked to apply everything you’ve learned in the last two days and deliver a training session to ILM standards. Once you’ve completed this activity, you will be awarded either a B2 (Competent Trainer) or B1 (Highly Competent Trainer) award and ILM Certification.

Train the Trainer Academy Membership

You will also get an annual pass to our Train the Trainer Academy. The Academy offers online tutorials on Trainer Essentials, Understanding Behaviour, Effective Engagement, Structure, Confidence, Questioning Skills, Difficult People, Visual Aids, Lecture/Webinar, Remote Training and Coaching/Mentoring Skills.

Membership also includes access to regular live coaching calls with one of our master trainers.

It is a perfect complement when attending the course to aid understanding and consolidation.

What Clients Say

★★★★★ "Our group all got on superbly well! Ralph’s approach was personable, patient and engaging. Nothing was too much trouble for him. As well as group feedback, we had the opportunity for one to one feedback too which was hugely beneficial. Although I had some experience of facilitating training, I learnt skills that I will carry with me for the rest of my career." Caroline Day, One Medical Group.

★★★★★ "After the course had ended, I delivered a training session which received excellent feedback – something I attribute to the new skills I learned on the PTT course. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this course to colleagues and when I need further training, Target Training will be my first port of call. it was definitely the best training course I’ve ever been on!" Ruth Hawke, SYHA.

★★★★★ "Last week’s course was by far the best I have ever been on. I suppose before the start I had a feeling it was going to be like the PTTLS course we did, oh how I was wrong. I am so looking forward to putting into place the powerful skills you have taught me and for that I would like to thank you so very much." David Frodsham, Greenergy

*Successful completion of the course yields a B2 - Competent Trainer or B1 - Highly Competent trainer award as well as ILM Certification.

"Are courses accredited?"

ILM Logo

Courses such as PTT Train the Trainer, Advanced PTT Train the Trainer, Master Trainer, Coaching Skills for Managers/Trainers, Master Coach, Presentation Skills, Management Development Programmes and Essential Skills for Managers are all accredited by the ILM. Based in the UK as part of the City & Guilds group they are a leading provider of specialist qualifications.  ILM is also recognised globally and many of their products and services are delivered and enjoyed by customers in many countries around the world.

"Do I have to complete a portfolio or pass an exam to complete the course?"

On courses that are accredited, they are performance assessed.  No portfolios or additional tests or statements are required.  Whilst on the training delegates are shown the skills and techniques required and they are then given opportunities to practise and develop.  During this time our trainers offer support and guidance accordingly. A formal assessment is then conducted at the end of the course and one to one feedback is given focusing on what was done well and areas for development.

"What is the difference between Coaching and Training?"

There are often mistakes regarding understanding the differences between the two methods.

Coaching - A conversation between the coach and the coachee whereby the coachee achieves a higher level and understanding of awareness and self-awareness, while the coach provides a safe environment and structure for that outcome to occur.

Training -  Training is teaching or developing in oneself or others, any skills and knowledge that relate to specific useful competencies. Training has specific goals of improving one's capability, capacity, productivity and performance and to maintain, upgrade and update skills throughout working life.

To train, you need to know the skill, to coach you don’t because it is more about the person.

How can these be miss-understood? I know the English language does not help with a ski instructor and a tennis coach, but coaching and training are different. I see the cross between coach and mentor is the same; the key is to understand the boundaries between them all.
