Some of us are very lucky as trainers to have had fantastic training support and continued professional development, but many aren’t so fortunate. One of the most common statements I come across when delivering PTT Train the Trainer courses is how many people are given a task by their managers to train something because “We need training on that”.
Then comes the inevitable worry about “How am I going to do that, and where do I start?” I’ve been there, so I know exactly how you feel because you want to get it right and more than anything, don’t want to let anyone down. Invariably then, you press on and do your very best with what little information you have been given which might lead to some good stuff, but in my experience, most of it is time, and money wasted because the perceived need is not the same as the actual need! So where and why has it gone wrong?
In any form of training, there is always a training need for individuals and organisational requirements, so it’s so

The last six months have had a massive impact on the training sector. We have had to adapt significantly, and what we thought was going to be a temporary measure has now become the norm. We have changed!
The reality is that we now have to train people remotely, and this can add additional pressure on trainers, who now not only have to deliver effective training but also to know how to do it using new technology. Added to this the fact that many people attending online may not want to be there, they may have had a poor experience of online training, and of course, when we have a poor experience of something, it can put us off for life.
This is why we have updated our two-day ILM accredited Professional Trainer Techniques (PTT) Train the Trainer course. We have included a brand new module on remote learning covering essential items and covering:
How to set up an online remote session - key essentials such as providing delegates with some remote etiquette and how to simplify the options available.

Why is it that we get some people working with us and others seem to work against us; no matter what we do to try and get along with them or convince them to work with us? It can be at the minimum a frustration and in the worst cases stressful and career-threatening!
Well, people 'buy-in' to people they like, or at least respect. They feel they can agree with some people and have common ground, even if not friends. But, not everyone is going to like us or agree with us! However, successful people find a way to achieve a partnership or agreement, a way they can move forward and get along with almost everyone; if we just work with the ones we like or agree with us and ignore the others we are creating problems for the future.
The workplace is just like any other place and brings together a bunch of disparate and different people, with a jumble of different personalities/traits. The difference is we cannot just walk away from co-workers or staff we find difficult as we might do to people

What is a positive mental attitude? There is a recurring theme in life that if you have a more positive mental attitude that you will be more successful, healthy, happier, and have more energy to deal with the adversity that life throws at you.
From my performance coaching background, this is a mindset I have helped and guided others to create, including myself a few years ago. It is about adopting new habits, getting rid of the negative ones, and making new changes in your life that will help you. Think about what you do at the point of adversity? Do you notice if you slump back or do you see it as an opportunity to create a shift in your way of thinking and turning it into a positive, being constructive instead of it being a criticism?
We spend our life’s in the negativity and negativity works 100% of the time. The key is to deal with situations differently. Attitude is such a huge part in life and creating a proactive, positive mindset over a negative reactive one, works wonders.

I am fortunate, and I get to deliver training to some fantastic people and most want to learn skills. It could be skilled on how to be a great leader or an excellent trainer. People come to training to learn skills, and I understand that I like learning skills too. However, the reality is something different, and when you understand this, it can be life-changing.
All habits and it doesn’t matter if it is positive or a negative one came about because of one thing. You decided at some stage to do what it was that has now become a habit. You didn’t do it once, you did it again and again, and before you know it, it became part of your mindset. You created a paradigm, which is a way of thinking. You did it again, again and again, and before you know it you do what it is without even thinking about it.
When we were born, our mind was an open book and our parents filled our brains with limitations, rules, values and behaviours that became our paradigm.
Paradigms are fantastic.
