training blog - the key advantages of structured training
But who benefits from having a structure for training sessions?
One of the things I like to talk about when I cover structure are the benefits of it as well as why it’s so important to have it. In one of my previous blogs, I wrote about the fact that learning is a journey and what we want to do in our structure is take everyone on that journey; a learning journey! Very much like a book, your structure needs to have a beginning, middle and an end, so it’s easy to follow; you tell them where they are going, take them there and then tell them where they’ve been. By doing things in this simple way, you will be helping:
Your Audience – They will be able to follow you easier if your structure is logical and is clearly signposted. They will be far more likely to stay engaged as they won’t be thinking in their heads “Where is this going” as I’m sure many of you like me have done in the past during training. After all, you wouldn’t build a house by starting with the roof or the bricks before the foundations! Once you follow the set structure over and over, your audience will become familiar with it, and it will set them at ease.
Your Fellow Trainers – If we all have our own structure, it can become very frustrating as a fellow trainer if you have to pick up other people’s work that doesn’t make sense. Life happens, people go sick or can’t make things so having a standardised approach will help other trainers pick up sessions quickly and effectively.
You – If you can have a set framework to work to it makes your planning and delivery so much easier. You can create templates to help you that you can use over and over in the safe knowledge that you will have a fully standardised, structured procedure. Even better too for those of you who are subject to any assurance; impress those inspectors with your standardised approach!
